February 12th, 2010 Craniosacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy developed from the work of an American osteopath, Dr. William Sutherland in the early 1900s who noticed subtle rhythmic patterns when he used his hands to listen to the client’s system. He realised that the bones of the cranium showed subtle movements so Dr Sutherland experimented extensively on himself and then with clients working with the bones, Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) and the nervous system.
Dr Sutherland’s discoveries were taken up by other osteopaths and body workers and recent research into the movement of the CSF, bones and nervous system has revealed that there are different levels of working to include the whole person. Biodynamic means “wholeness” and Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy includes working with the CSF as it bathes the brain and nervous system throughout the head, down the spine and into the sacrum; as well as the persons mental, emotional and spiritual needs.
A CST session takes place with the person fully clothed, lying or sitting comfortably on a treatment couch. Contact is made by placing hands lightly on the body to listen to the system and most people report a sense of deep relaxation.
CST is so gentle that it is suitable for newborn babies. It has a great capacity to rapidly resolve problems that many babies have e.g. colic, sucking difficulties, sleep problems and behavioral issues. For older children and adolescents conditions that have responded well include: ADHD ADD, Autism, fears and phobias, bed wetting and learning difficulties – dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.
Emma can combine and integrate CST, Homeopathy and Reflexology in sessions when requested or required. All work well together.
Emma is registered with the Cranial Sacral Therapy Association.
